This is of huge economic importance to UK businesses.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Not only will this help to support jobs throughout the UK but it will also be a solid foundation for us to build an even stronger trading relationship with Switzerland as we leave the EU.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"story-body__crosshead\">Trade deal &#8217;emergency&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>In 2017, Mr Fox said that the UK could &#8220;replicate the 40 free trade agreements before we leave the EU&#8221; on 29 March so that there would be no disruption to trade.<\/p>\n<p>But with 46 days until the UK is set to leave, such continuity agreements have been signed with only:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"story-body__unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">Switzerland<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">Chile<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">The Faroe Islands<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">Eastern and Southern Africa<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mutual recognition agreements &#8211; where a product lawfully sold in one country can be sold in another &#8211; have also been signed with Australia and New Zealand. <\/p>\n<p>The director general of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), Carolyn Fairbairn, said the lack of other trade deals being signed was an &#8220;emergency&#8221; &#8211; particularly in the case of South Korea and Japan.<\/p>\n<p>She told Sky News: &#8220;The prospect is the day after Brexit, those deals will disappear.&#8221; <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-politics-47196636\">Source<\/a> by <a href=\"\">[author_name]<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Image copyright Reuters Image caption International Trade Secretary Liam Fox talks to Swiss Economy Minister Guy Parmelin The UK and Switzerland have signed a deal to continue trading after Brexit as they did before it.
