Formed in 1947 to help rebuild European countries devastated by World War II, it supports infrastructure projects with traditional loans, interest-free credits, and grants.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kim, who was born in Seoul, South Korea, trained as medical doctor before rising through the ranks at the Bank.<\/p>\n<p>He was nominated by former U.S. President Barack Obama for his first and second terms as World Bank president. <\/p>\n<p>Positioned at 41 in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/profile\/jim-yong-kim\/#6c1631485e56\" class=\"story-body__link-external\">Forbes&#8217; Power People 2018<\/a> list, Mr Kim has presided over the dispersal of billions of dollars of World Bank funding.
