{"id":6055,"date":"2019-01-07T11:38:37","date_gmt":"2019-01-07T11:38:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.styledeals.co.uk\/blog\/facebook-takes-down-britain-first-ads\/"},"modified":"2019-01-07T11:38:37","modified_gmt":"2019-01-07T11:38:37","slug":"facebook-takes-down-britain-first-ads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.styledeals.co.uk\/blog\/facebook-takes-down-britain-first-ads\/","title":{"rendered":"Facebook takes down Britain First ads"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div property=\"articleBody\">\n<figure class=\"media-landscape has-caption full-width lead\"><span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><\/p>\n<p>                <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"js-image-replace\" alt=\"Facebook graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/320\/cpsprodpb\/3121\/production\/_103877521_8bbaaad9-3e3d-4c53-8ae4-09ea17186f05.jpg\" width=\"976\" height=\"650\"\/><span class=\"off-screen\">Image copyright<\/span><br \/>\n                 <span class=\"story-image-copyright\">Getty Images\/Facebook<\/span><\/p>\n<p>            <\/span><figcaption class=\"media-caption\"><span class=\"off-screen\">Image caption<\/span><br \/>\n                <span class=\"media-caption__text\"><br \/>\n                    Political groups have been spending increasing amounts of money on Facebook adverts<br \/>\n                <\/span><br \/>\n            <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">Ads for a Britain First petition to stop a mosque being built in Maidstone, Kent, appeared on Facebook over the Christmas period, despite the group being banned by the social network.<\/p>\n<p>The three ads and the page on which they originated have now been removed, after BBC News contacted Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>Political Gamers TV says this is unfair as it has no direct links with Britain First and just reports its activities.<\/p>\n<p>Britain First says it is suing Facebook for &#8220;political discrimination&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"story-body__crosshead\">&#8216;Hate speech&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>Political Gamers TV told BBC News: &#8220;If any of our paid ads went against the Facebook policies, why were they approved by Facebook in the first place during the review process which all ads go through?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The ads were first spotted and reported to Facebook as hate speech by user Brian Whelan on 2 January and he received a standard response from Facebook saying that the page in question did not &#8220;go against one of our specific community standards&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>A day later, when the BBC got in touch, it had changed its mind.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We thank the BBC for bringing the page Political Gamers TV to our attention, which violated our policies and has now been removed,&#8221; Facebook told BBC News.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We urge people to use our reporting tools if they find content that they believe violates our community standards, so we can continue to take appropriate action such as this.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media-landscape has-caption full-width\"><span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><\/p>\n<p>                 <span class=\"off-screen\">Image copyright<\/span><br \/>\n                 <span class=\"story-image-copyright\">Facebook<\/span><\/p>\n<p>            <\/span><figcaption class=\"media-caption\"><span class=\"off-screen\">Image caption<\/span><br \/>\n                <span class=\"media-caption__text\"><br \/>\n                    The Facebook pages of party leaders, Paul Golding and Jayda Fransen, have also been removed<br \/>\n                <\/span><br \/>\n            <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Political Gamers TV told BBC News it was &#8220;a new, growing patriotic gaming youth movement&#8230; here to defend the rights of gamers and games from the unfair treatment of male gamers coming from SJWs [social justice warriors], feminists and left-wing activists&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Facebook banned Britain First in March, removing the pages of its leader and deputy for violating its community standards.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"story-body__crosshead\">&#8216;Political gerrymandering&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>In a statement on the latest development, the group accused Facebook of getting too involved in politics.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Facebook censored Britain First, cutting off 2.7 million of our supporters. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Now, they are deliberately targeting anyone who posts content supportive of Britain First. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is political gerrymandering and censorship at its worst. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is why Britain First is suing Facebook for political discrimination, in Belfast High Court.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Whelan told BBC News: &#8220;The Political Gamers channel is much more small fry &#8211;
