{"id":5502,"date":"2018-12-16T11:32:22","date_gmt":"2018-12-16T11:32:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.styledeals.co.uk\/blog\/ministers-deny-planning-no-deal-brexit-holiday-warnings\/"},"modified":"2018-12-16T11:32:22","modified_gmt":"2018-12-16T11:32:22","slug":"ministers-deny-planning-no-deal-brexit-holiday-warnings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.styledeals.co.uk\/blog\/ministers-deny-planning-no-deal-brexit-holiday-warnings\/","title":{"rendered":"Ministers deny planning no-deal Brexit holiday warnings"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div property=\"articleBody\">\n<figure class=\"media-landscape no-caption full-width lead\"><span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><\/p>\n<p>                <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"js-image-replace\" alt=\"Holidaymakers on Spanish beach\" src=\"https:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/320\/cpsprodpb\/97C1\/production\/_104194883_spanishhols.jpg\" width=\"976\" height=\"549\"\/><span class=\"off-screen\">Image copyright<\/span><br \/>\n                 <span class=\"story-image-copyright\">Getty Images<\/span><\/p>\n<p>            <\/span><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">Downing Street has dismissed claims that people will be warned not to book holidays beyond March 2019 as part of no-deal Brexit contingency plans.<\/p>\n<p>It comes after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/no-deal-brexit-travel-warning-dont-go-on-holiday-after-march-29-jnfmrgsj9\" class=\"story-body__link-external\">the Sunday Times said<\/a> senior officials had examined the idea.<\/p>\n<p>But a No 10 spokesperson rejected the report as &#8220;categorically untrue.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And travel agents&#8217; body Abta told the BBC: &#8220;The European Commission has said that even in a no-deal scenario, flights will still operate between the UK and EU, and a visa is not required.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The UK is set to leave the European Union on 29 March 2019.<\/p>\n<p>There are understood to be tensions among government ministers over the prospect of a no-deal Brexit, and the impact it might have on the economy.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"story-body__crosshead\">Travel freely<\/h2>\n<p>Last week it was confirmed that while UK travellers <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/home-affairs\/news\/brexit-preparedness-european-commission-proposes-reciprocal-visa-free-travel-eu-uk-nationals-no-deal-scenario_en\" class=\"story-body__link-external\">will not need a visa<\/a> to visit the EU, Britons will need to apply for and buy another document to travel to member states, post-Brexit.<\/p>\n<p>The document &#8211; which costs \u20ac7 (\u00a36.30) and is valid for three years &#8211; is called an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) and although not launched yet, is expected to come into force in 2021. <\/p>\n<p>The travel requirement is not just for the UK but for many non-EU countries.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/sites\/beta-political\/files\/2018-11-26_qa_citizens_rights_en_0.pdf\" class=\"story-body__link-external\">Under the Brexit deal,<\/a> EU citizens and UK nationals will continue to be able to travel freely with a passport or identity card until the end of the transition period in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>After this period ends, the European Commission <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/home-affairs\/news\/brexit-preparedness-european-commission-proposes-reciprocal-visa-free-travel-eu-uk-nationals-no-deal-scenario_en\" class=\"story-body__link-external\">has offered<\/a> visa-free travel for UK nationals coming to the EU for a short stay, as long as the UK offers the same in return.<\/p>\n<p>But although they do not need a visa, UK nationals will need the ETIAS &#8211; deal or no deal.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/business-46583433\">Source<\/a> by <a href=\"\">[author_name]<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Image copyright Getty Images Downing Street has dismissed claims that people will be warned not to book holidays beyond March 2019 as part of no-deal Brexit contingency plans.
