{"id":4823,"date":"2018-11-27T15:28:28","date_gmt":"2018-11-27T15:28:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.styledeals.co.uk\/blog\/viagogo-ordered-to-clean-up-ticket-sales\/"},"modified":"2018-11-27T15:28:28","modified_gmt":"2018-11-27T15:28:28","slug":"viagogo-ordered-to-clean-up-ticket-sales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.styledeals.co.uk\/blog\/viagogo-ordered-to-clean-up-ticket-sales\/","title":{"rendered":"Viagogo ordered to clean up ticket sales"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div property=\"articleBody\">\n<figure class=\"media-landscape has-caption full-width lead\"><span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><\/p>\n<p>                <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"js-image-replace\" alt=\"Arctic Monkeys\" src=\"https:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/320\/cpsprodpb\/16D3\/production\/_101034850_gettyimages-450465138.jpg\" width=\"976\" height=\"549\"\/><span class=\"off-screen\">Image copyright<\/span><br \/>\n                 <span class=\"story-image-copyright\">Getty Images<\/span><\/p>\n<p>            <\/span><figcaption class=\"media-caption\"><span class=\"off-screen\">Image caption<\/span><br \/>\n                <span class=\"media-caption__text\"><br \/>\n                    Earlier this year, Arctic Monkeys&#8217; manager called for Viagogo to be shut down<br \/>\n                <\/span><br \/>\n            <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">A court has ordered ticket reseller Viagogo to &#8220;overhaul&#8221; the way it does business. <\/p>\n<p>The Competition and Markets Authority launched legal action against the company in August over concerns it was breaking consumer protection law.<\/p>\n<p>The court said Viagogo must tell buyers which seat they will get and if there is a risk that they will be turned away at the door. <\/p>\n<p>In a Twitter post, Viagogo described it as a &#8220;groundbreaking settlement&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, CMA chief executive Andrea Coscelli said the court order was a &#8220;victory for anyone who decides to buy a ticket through Viagogo&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The court order means Viagogo will have to:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"story-body__unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">Tell ticket buyers if there is a risk they will be turned away at the door<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">Inform customers which seat they will get<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">Inform buyers who is selling the ticket<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">Make it easy for people to get their money back when things go wrong<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">Prevent the sale of tickets a seller does not own and may not be able to supply <\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">Not give misleading information about the availability and popularity of tickets<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Viagogo agreed to address all the CMA&#8217;s concerns, the regulator said. <\/p>\n<p>The company has to comply with the court order by mid-January, the same deadline set for other resale sites that have already agreed to change their practices, the regulator added.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, the three other big ticket resellers, StubHub, Get Me In and Seatwave promised to make change to their business models.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement Viagogo said: &#8220;We are pleased that we have been able to work closely with the CMA to come to an agreement that provides even greater transparency to consumers.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>It said in future the face value of a ticket would be displayed on the website.<\/p>\n<p>Many figures in the music industry have criticised reselling sites.<\/p>\n<p>In April, the manager of the Arctic Monkeys, Ian McAndrew, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/business-43894091\" class=\"story-body__link\">called on the government to shut down Viagogo<\/a> after tickets for the band&#8217;s upcoming UK tour appeared on the site for as much as \u00a32,200.<\/p>\n<p>Viagogo is run by American Eric Baker, who founded StubHub with university classmate Jeff Fluhr.
