It prevents these young people from getting a foot on the ladder.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The report also suggested there was confusion among graduates and employers about the current rules governing internships.<\/p>\n<p>At the moment the national minimum wage must be paid to interns who work set hours or are given specific tasks by a manager who overseas how they are done.<\/p>\n<p>But a spokesperson for the Sutton Trust said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/employment-rights-for-interns\" class=\"story-body__link-external\">guidelines from HMRC <\/a>leave a grey area, which is why the organisation is pushing for the rules to be tightened up.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/business-46315035\">Source<\/a> by <a href=\"\">[author_name]<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Image copyright Getty Images More than a quarter of graduates have taken an unpaid internship, a survey has suggested.
